Discordance is a skill used by bards and requires the Musicianship skill in order to successfully work. Upon a successful attempt, a players target will lose a percentage of its Stats and Armor Rating (AR); the percentage lost is dependent on the level of the individuals' Discordance skill. Once the effect wears off, the target's Stats will return to normal.
Discordance requires Musicianship in order to successfully perform.
This skill can be found in the skill book (K). Alternately, right-click an instrument and select 'Discordance'. Then, select the target you wish to suppress.
Upon a successful Discordance attempt, the creature will have weakened Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, as well as overall armor rating. The effect lasts between 15 and 30 seconds. Players and pets cannot be targeted.
This is a Discordance guide that is focused on creatures that are slow and do not cast spells and/or have abilities that can easily be avoided.
Discordance doesn't generate aggro on the person using the ability and doesn't reset when losing line of sight. While it's more fun to go out looking for things to use the skill a very good way to level it up is to have a pet (or a second toon) tanking while you stand behind using Discordance on the selected target and either healing your pet or healing the toon tanking the damage. This should work on lower difficulty mobs and bears to get the skill to at least 70.
This is a list of difficulty for other barding skills which could be followed too.
Discordance Skill | Recommended Creatures | Locations |
0-30 | Bard Trainer (300gp) | Britain, Cove, Minoc, Yew |
30-60 | Ettins, Lizardfolk, Orcs | Ettins, Lizardfolk, Orcs are randomly found throughout the overworld of Britannia; however, Ettins are more concentrated on the second floor of Despise, Lizardfolk at the Bog of Desolation which is far north of the right side of Britain, and Orcs within their Orc Forts (other dangerous Orcs reside there)—one located south of Cove from a ledge found to the left of Cove's entrance and the other is located far south of Yew above Shame. |
60-70 | Earth Elementals, Wyverns, Drakes | Earth Elementals are found on the second floor of Despise alongside Ettins, and Drakes are plentiful in Wind Mountains among Harpies and on the second floor of Destard alongside Wyverns and other hostile reptilian creatures that may be more plentiful than them. |
70-80 | Dull Elementals, Wyverns, Drakes | Dull Elementals are found on the second floor of Shame, and Drakes and Wyverns are found in the same location mentioned for 60-70. |
80-100 | Ogre Lords, Drakes | Ogre Lords are found on the fourth floor of Despise and on the first floor of Ice, and Dragons are found on the second floor of Destard among Drakes and other reptilian creatures. |
Find a spot where you can gather 4 or 5 enemies of the type you want to use Discord on. Once they are all kind of together get your pet to kill one of them while you try to get the other monsters to aggro your pet.
Once the pet kills the target it will stand still taking the hits from the other monsters but not defending itself. So from here all you have to do is start using discordance on each one of the monsters while bandaging your pet.
The number of mobs around your pet it´s up to you but I suggest 3. Music cooldown is around 9seconds. And to get decent gains of Discordance you want to have targets that the effect lasts between 24secs and 27secs. Anything over 30secs won´t give gains. Anything lower than 24secs will give you better gains but probably means your pet is taking more damage.
EDIT 15/10/2021: Due to the change implemented yesterday I think one mob might be enough as you can target the same mob over and over and if it works as the other barding skills it should be checking the skill at every attempt making it so you can get gains on just that one mob. Haven't tested it as it was implemented as I finished the skill.
As a general guide for where to train I would suggest:
0-30 Vendor
30-65 Harpies and Small Orcs on the overworld (there a re a lot of remote areas where you can train without having to worry too much about PKs showing up). If you happen to find a spot with some of the blueish orcs that cast magic you can stay there until 72.5.
72.5 - 79.1 Air Elementals or Dull Elementals. I suggest Air Elementals as they seem to deal less physical damage while also raising your pet resisting spell.
Here the skill gains gets a lot slower and targets do a lot more damage.
79.2 - 96.1 At 96.1 Drakes start to be 27seconds, which makes the skill go up significantly slower.
96.2 - GM Ogre Lords. Roughly 1 point every 30minutes in Power Hour, similar as other barding skills. This is the end
ongoing Drakes and Fire Beetles in Wind Mountains
(I will update once I get to the end of it)
Some tips:
Keep an eye out for the respawn of that one monster you killed at the beginning of the training session as if it spawns nearby it will either aggro you or come for your pet.
