Factions are a system of consensual PVP which allow players of opposing factions to engage in combat with one another anywhere in the game. This makes faction play a very dangerous endeavor- and players should not take the decision to join one lightly as a result. It is typically not a system for newer players. However, for those looking for a challenge, being a member can be quite rewarding.
To join a faction, visit that particular faction's Faction Stone, right click, and select Join Faction. Locations for these Faction Stones are available on the Official Map. Each faction has a faction base in Britannia where each faction's Faction Stone can be found.
Minax can find their base, Castle Minax, to the east of Skara Brae in Spiritwood Forest.
Shadowlords can find their base, Stonegate, to the north east of Yew in the Deep Forest.
True Britannians can find their base, Castle Britannia, to the north east of Britain along the road to the swamp.
To leave a faction, your must have served at least 7 days of real-world time first. You may use the same Faction Stone to resign from your faction. There is an IP restriction on factions- you can have as many characters as you want in one faction. You cannot join multiple factions from the same IP. When you join a faction, you start with 100 Kill Points (0 Silver / Deficit)
Attempting to circumvent the IP restriction is against the server rules and may result in action against your account.
Members of opposing factions are exempt from the consequences of performing negative actions on each other so you can attack, kill, steal, and loot each other freely.
Beneficial acts still dependent on a target's notoriety. For example, if you are blue, and you heal a gray group-mate, you will be performing a criminal action. Anyone not in a faction cannot perform beneficial acts on a player that is in a faction.
Faction players who cast field spells such as fire wall will only affect opposing faction members and monsters. Faction players who throw explosion pots will only affect opposing faction members and monsters.
Murderers cannot be part of a faction. If a faction player becomes a murderer, they will be kicked out of their faction, lose all kill points and conserve what ever delay you still had to leave/join a faction to prevent abuse.
These three measures are the most important in the world of Factions.
Kill Points: Upon killing an opposing faction member, the killer steals 10% of the victim's Kill Points. These Kill Points are used to form the leaderboard rankings. The minimum number of Kill Points the killer receives is 1. However, if the victim is at 6 Deficit Points, no Kill Points are awarded.
Deficit Points: If a player is killed so often that they reach 0 Kill Points, with every death they accumulate Deficit Points, up to a maximum of 6. To escape Deficit, a player must kill an opposing faction member and bring themselves above 0 Kill Points.
Silver: Players receive 20 Silver per Kill Point gained. Silver is split among all the faction players who have damaged the victim proportionally. Silver from kills is reduced during faction events.
Players can transfer silver to other players in their faction by using a command.
“/transfersilver xxx”
Where xxx is the amount and targeting their faction mate who they wish to transfer to.
To view your current kill points, deficit points, silver, and faction rank, open your character window and click on your faction name on the right.
Factions fight to control the towns of Britannia. By controlling towns each faction gains access to the faction rewards store. The more towns a faction controls the cheaper the faction rewards become.
An opposing faction member steals the Town Sigil from the Town Stone controlled by another Faction.
A faction member with 80 or more stealing is required to take a sigil from a town or faction stone.
To steal the sigil simply right click ‘steal sigil’ to initiate stealing.
When stealing the sigil the player must not move or receive damage for 5 seconds or else the stealing will fail.
The player turns purple to indicate they are carrying the Sigil. The player can transfer the sigil to another faction member by using the item in their inventory.
The player must return the Sigil to their Faction Stone. Only one Town Sigil may be in a given Faction Stone at once.
Once the sigil is placed in the faction stone, the sigil must be defended until it is captured. Once the capture timer has expired the faction will take control of the town.
The capture time is calculated in hours (real world time) based on how many towns the faction currently controls. If a faction controls no towns it will capture after 8 hours. If a faction already has towns it will capture in 8 + (4 * number of controlled towns) hours.
For 3 days (real world time) after capture, the town cannot be recaptured by another faction. After that, the town becomes vulnerable again.
A successful town capture deposits 5000 silver into that Town Stone for the controlling faction to use.
If a player carrying the sigil dies they will transfer it to the killer. At which point the other faction member can either return it to the original town stone or place it on their own faction stone.
Right click and select Steal Sigil to steal the Town Sigil. The player stealing must have at least 80 skill in Stealing in order to perform this task.
Right click and select Return Sigil if you have recaptured the Sigil from your enemy and wish to put it back.
Right click and select Deposit Silver to deposit silver from your personal balance into the bucket of the Town Stone's balance.
The silver deposited in the Town Stone is used to purchase certain rewards such as the Faction Mage and to place faction guards in the town's limits for defense.
Double click the stone to open the Management menu. This is where rewards are claimed (more below)
Right click and select Join/Resign Faction to join or leave a faction
If you are carrying a Town Sigil, right click the stone and select Deposit Sigil to put it into your Faction Stone
If a Faction Stone has a Sigil, it can be stolen again by right clicking and selecting Steal Sigil.
Double click the stone to bring up the Leaderboard or by right clicking and selecting Rankings. This shows the global leaderboard as well as a leaderboard inside of just your own faction. This also shows which factions control which towns globally.
Faction rankings are calculated daily. Your rank will not immediately change based on kill points gained or lost but once the rankings are updated.
A Town Sigil is an item you carry. It cannot be dropped or picked up. While carrying it, your character is turned purple
You cannot recall, gate, or teleport in any way while carrying the Sigil. You must run to your destination.
If a player carrying the Sigil is killed, their killer receives the Sigil.
Upon stealing a Sigil from a stone, you have one hour (real world time) to deposit it to its next location, otherwise it returns to its last location. If you log out, it returns to its last location.
You can pass the Sigil to a player in your same faction by double clicking the Sigil and targeting a player.
Players with rank 3 or higher can place faction guards within a town that they control. Faction guards cost 2000 silver to place and must be purchased using the Town Stone's silver balance. A faction member's personal silver balance is not used for this. Faction guards will attack opposing faction members on sight.
Cost to purchase a guard is 2000 silver taken from the Town Stone.
Place a guard by saying “I wish to place a guard”
Guards can be removed by players rank 3 or higher by saying “I wish to dismiss a guard”
There is a limit of 10 guards for a particular city.
You cannot place more than 3 guards within 10 units of each other.
Guards can be placed anywhere within the town's limits.
By participating in faction events and killing other faction players you will earn faction silver. Faction silver does not have a physical form but instead is associated with your character. Spending faction silver is primarily done via the Town Stone through the faction store.
If a Faction controls a town, they can spend 10,000 Silver from their Town Stone to spawn a reagent vendor for 24 hours. The faction mage sells reagents at a reduced price.
This vendor only sells to the faction that controls the town.
A faction may only have one faction mage at a time.
The faction equipment requisition deed is a special reward that can be purchased through the faction store. This item is used by faction crafters to create special faction only equipment. This deed is not blessed and can be traded. Each faction has their own version of equipment requisition deed which will only work with their faction's equipment recipes.
Note: It is required to have at least 100.0 in the designated crafting skill to see Faction Equipment crafting recipes.
The faction equipment bless deed is a special reward that can be purchased through the faction store. This item is used by faction players to temporarily bless a piece of non-magical or faction equipment. When used on a valid item it will be blessed for 7 days. When the bless expires it can be blessed again using another equipment bless deed. Faction Equipment Bless Deeds are not blessed.
Even though equipment maybe blessed, it will still degrade and break with use. Remember to repair your equipment regularly to make sure your character is performing optimally.
Volatile spellbooks cannot be blessed with a faction equipment bless deed.
When a faction member dies in standard gameplay, they will receive a stat loss effect for 5 minutes. During stat loss the player's strength, dexterity, and intelligence are reduced by 50%.
Players who kill a faction member under the effect of stat loss will not receive any silver.
Players who have stat loss will not gain any silver when killing other players.
If a player has any active pets they also will receive stat loss with the player.
Pets who are killed while not under stat loss will not lose skill points on resurrection.
However if a pet is killed with stat loss effect active they will lose the regular amount of skill points on resurrection.
In faction events special stat loss conditions override the standard stat loss settings. More information on those can be found in the faction event documentation.
When faction players are killed they reward silver to opposing faction members. The amount of silver rewarded can be affected by the current under population bonus for the faction killing. This bonus is dynamic based on the amount of each faction that is currently online in the game. The bonus is calculated based on the disparity between the highest population faction and each of the under populated factions.
Under populated factions can theoretically get nearly double the amount of silver at maximum effect.
There are minimum requirements that need to be met before any under population bonuses are given. Meaning there needs to be a certain threshold of disparity met first.
The current bonuses will be shown at the faction stones if one is active.
There are multiple Faction Pillars in the world where special faction events take place. This event is a King Of The Hill style event where faction players must stay near the pillar and ward off other faction players nearby.
Crafters that are in a Faction have the option to imbue Clothing, Weapons, and Armor crafted by runic tools. Runic imbuing provides a one time temporary bless of the runic equipment created.
Crafters must be in a town that their faction controls and at a related NPC crafting shop in order to imbue items.
After crafting a piece of equipment with a runic tool, you will be prompted with a pop-up to spend 3000 silver to imbue that equipment.
Faction Imbued equipment is Faction Blessed for 21 days and cannot be worn by anyone outside of the designated faction.
