The veil grows thin over Britannia from October 1st through November 7th, though the Halloween vendors linger a few weeks longer so you can spend down any candy you haven’t gotten around to yet.
Halloween is rolling out in stages. The first activities are live from October 1st, and new ones will keep arriving over the coming hours and days. Every activity marked below as opening on October 8th will be live by that date at the latest – some may open sooner.
Halloween candy is its own currency, handed out by the activities below and spent at the Candy Hoarder’s cart and a few other Halloween vendors. See the item catalogue for the full list of what candy (and gold) buys.
Buy a costume from the Candy Hoarder and use it on one of your own tamed pets to change its body: Spectral (a spectral wraith), Pumpkin (a fire elemental), Bloodmoon (a hell hound), or Toxic (a toxic rotting corpse). Costumes change the body only – your pet keeps its own stats and abilities, and it shows the new creature’s natural look rather than a colour tint. Any pet can wear any costume. For some pets you may need to log out and back in to see the new look (we’re working on improving this) – you’ll get a message when that applies. While costumed, your pet also hits noticeably harder against wild undead. A costume lasts until you remove it (with a confirmation prompt) or until the event ends – there’s no timer, and removing it brings back your pet’s original look, dye and size exactly.
A fifth costume, Rotten (an ice dragon king), isn’t sold anywhere – it’s the rare top prize from the Pet Gauntlet (see below).
Mounts need their own separate Mount Costumes – a regular pet costume won’t fit a mount, and vice versa. A Mount Costume reshapes your mount into another kind of mount you can still ride: Spectral (a glowing white ghost horse), Pumpkin (a fire beetle), Bloodmoon (a blood-red stag), or Toxic (a toxic-green llama). A rare Rotten Mount Costume (a skeletal steed) is also a Pet Gauntlet prize. The same log-out-and-back-in note applies for some mounts.
Opens October 8th. The Pet Tonic Peddler sells four gold-bought tonics that give your pet a temporary combat boost for 30 minutes at a time (one tonic active per pet): Hellfire Draught, Bonebrew, Nightmare Tonic, and Ghastly Elixir. Tonics only help against monsters – they do nothing in PvP – and they don’t change how your pet looks. They work on mounts too, and they stack cleanly with a costume. See the item catalogue for exact prices and effects.
Six Halloween House Dyes are sold at the Candy Hoarder’s cart, 300 candy each: Toxic Green, Bloodmoon, Haunted Metal, Blaze Orange, Pumpkin Orange, and Spectral Teal. Use one while standing at or near your own house – no targeting needed – and it recolours the house’s body, sign, and doors for 90 days. Using a dye again, in the same or a different colour, resets the clock. Your house sign gains a “Remove All House Paints” option whenever there’s an active dye (or a year-round House Paint) to strip – it clears everything and restores your house’s original colours early, if you’d rather not wait out the 90 days.
The Candy Hoarder’s cart is organized into tabs – Masks & Hats, Clothing & Gear, Decorations, Mounts & Ethereals, and Event Supplies – so it’s worth a full browse. Among the decorations: a Graveyard Tree and Twisted Graveyard Tree (full-size house decorations, 500 candy each) and matching Tabletop Graveyard Tree and Tabletop Twisted Graveyard Tree miniatures (350 candy each) for tabletops and shelves. A Harvest Scarecrow – a pumpkin-orange scarecrow for your house – is also sold, purely cosmetic.
Selling unwanted junk to the vendor still works too, though a few things (grown pumpkins among them) are excluded from the quick “sell everything” buy-back so you don’t accidentally hand over a prize pumpkin for pocket change.
If you dig graves this Halloween, keep an eye out. Alongside the shard’s existing rare gravedigging pets – Nightbear, Nightllama, and Nightbeetle – three new ones can now turn up: Nightwarg, Nightsteed, and Nightstag, plus Nightostard. To be clear, since it comes up a lot: every one of these Night pets has exactly the same stats, abilities, and pet slots as a regular Nightmare. They’re rare because of how they look, not because they’re weaker – a Nightwarg fights every bit as hard as the Nightmare you already know.
There’s also a skeletal steed that turns up from gravedigging separately from the Night pets above – it trades a little of a Nightmare’s power for full immunity to poison.
And then there’s the Headless Horseman’s own mount, a Halloween Skeletal Nightmare. Most of the time it’s gone when he falls, but every so often it survives him – a real, full-strength mount with Nightmare-level stats and Nightmare-level taming difficulty, left standing right where he fell. It won’t wait around for long, so a tamer who’s quick about it can walk away with a steed every bit the equal of a Nightmare.
Opens by October 8th. This Halloween the Hedge Maze near Skara Brae is the heart of the season. Follow the grinning jack-o’-lanterns through the lantern-lit hedges to the courtyard at its centre, where you’ll find:
Out in the hedges themselves, keep your eyes open: pumpkins turn up to be smashed, a forgotten graveyard hides a few graves worth digging, bats, cats and stranger critters wander the corridors, and the corner rooms each hold their own spooky scene. In the ruins at the far end of the maze stands the Harvest Altar (opens October 8th), where Pumpkin Ghouls and other restless dead lurk.
Sticky webs (from October 8th) line the maze. Walk into one and it may catch you for a moment; tear one down with ‘Break the Web’ and you’ll shake loose a few spiderlings – and sometimes a little candy, or rarely a web of your own to decorate your home. Broken webs grow back before long.
The Harvest Watch keeps the peace in the maze (from October 8th). There are no town guards here, but commit a crime inside the Hedge Maze and the Pumpkin Patch Defenders will come for you instead. Run far enough and they give up the chase; stand and fight and you’ll have the harvest to answer to.
Just outside the maze, the pond is home to the Haunted Waters leaderboard for the season’s heaviest haunted catch.
Opens October 8th. Look for the Pumpkin Patch at the heart of the Hedge Maze – that’s where pumpkin seeds are planted. Buy a Halloween Pumpkin Seed from the Candy Hoarder (Classic, Toxic Green, or Bloodmoon variety – purely a colour choice, all worth the same at harvest), or keep an eye out when you smash a pumpkin, since there’s a small chance one drops a seed of its own.
Planting and growing: plant a seed (up to two patches at a time), then water it every so often to keep it healthy – a patch left dry too long will still ripen, just smaller. It’s ready to harvest roughly a day after planting, and if you let a ripe pumpkin sit too long without picking it, it eventually withers away.
Harvest and carve: what you pull out of the ground is randomly sized, from Small up to a rare Colossal, each with its own tooltip naming who grew it and how much it weighs. Carve it into a jack-o’-lantern the same way as any other pumpkin, and it keeps its size, colour, and “Grown by” tooltip.
Sell or show off: sell a grown pumpkin back to the Candy Hoarder (bigger pumpkins pay more candy, capped at four sales a day), or bring it to the Judging Stand in the Hedge Maze and use “Judge” to weigh it onto a shard-wide top-10 leaderboard by weight. Late in the season, the record-holding pumpkin’s weight decides how fearsome the Pumpkin King rises to be when he’s summoned at the stand – grow a big one, and you may earn the title Grower of the Pumpkin King when he falls, while everyone who helped bring him down earns Pumpkin King Slayer.
Buy Rotten Pumpkins cheaply from the Candy Hoarder (5 for 10 candy) and throw them at anyone nearby – harmless, never starts a fight, just a mess. Land hits on 25 different people over the season and you’ll earn the title Pumpkin Chucker. Or start an actual Pumpkin Fight: nearby pumpkin-carriers get invited into a short, scored free-for-all. Win one outright in a fight of at least three different players (your own other characters don’t count) and you’ll earn Pumpkin Fight Champion.
Opens October 8th. Find Hester Hollowell in town and she’ll start you off with the Trick-or-Treat Trail: she hands you a costume, then asks you to trick-or-treat at three different town vendors and smash five pumpkins. Report back for 50 candy, a Halloween Riddle Scroll, a shot at a Halloween painting, and the title Trick-or-Treater. It’s a once-per-account reward, so it won’t repeat on your alts, but the title itself is yours to wear on any character.
Finish the Trail and Hester has something darker for you: the Headless Search. Put down five of the season’s monsters, dig up three grave dust, then follow them to the Headless Horseman’s own grave and search it – if you dare. Come back and you’ll earn the title Seeker of the Headless and another painting. Hester can also tell you when the Headless Horseman is due to ride next, if you ask her.
Both of these quests quietly reward a chunk of Gem Mastery experience the first time you complete them – see Mastery Chain and Halloween below.
Opens October 8th. The pass to the Halloween Dungeon near Yew is sealed, and the Gatekeeper’s Watch decides when it opens. Talk to the Gatekeeper at the pass (or read the sign beside it) to learn what the Watch asks for today. It’s one of three trials, and it changes every day:
It only takes one completed trial to open the pass for everyone, and it stays open until the next daily server restart. When the dungeon closes, anyone still inside is carried safely back to Yew along with their pets. Once the pass is open you can also reach the dungeon through the gate in the Hedge Maze’s travellers’ corner.
Inside, the Harvest Watch keeps the peace here too: commit a crime in the Halloween Dungeon and the Pumpkin Patch Defenders will hunt you down.
From October 8th, the Headless Horseman rides twice every night, and his approach is announced to everyone. Face him down (bring friends – he’s tougher in numbers) for candy, gear, a shot at a rare Hallowed weapon, and the title Slayer of the Headless Horseman. Ask Hester Hollowell if you want to know exactly when he’s due next.
For the shard’s toughest players, there’s a second, harder fight: make a costly gold offering at the Horseman’s own grave to summon the Vengeful Horseman (from October 8th), a much stronger version of the fight with its own rewards, a rare fiery cosmetic head, and the title Bane of the Vengeful Horseman. There’s a fastest-kill leaderboard for bragging rights.
A run of harder, group-oriented content for players who’ve cleared out the rest of the event and want something tougher. All of it opens on October 8th:
Several permanent items are seasonally available this year – the Headless Hunter’s Blade, Spider Fang, the Pumpkin Carver, the Gravekeeper’s Shovel, the new Hallowed Scary Mask, and returning favourites like the 2024 Halloween staff, cloak, and shield – each with a small perk that keeps working all year round, not just during Halloween. The weapons’ perks work against wild monsters. The Potion of Vampirism grants a short burst of life-drain in a fight. See the item catalogue for what each one does.
The same rule now applies to the Christmas Glacial Staff and Christmas Sword: their abilities only work against monsters, never against other players or their pets. Snowball Fights in the North Pole Arena are unchanged.
Miners, lumberjacks, and rockhounds can turn up Haunted Ore, Haunted Logs, and Haunted Granite Slabs this season – smelt, cut, or carve them the normal way and use them in any Blacksmithy, Carpentry, Fletching, Tinkering, or Stonemasonry recipe for a haunted-looking (but otherwise ordinary) piece of gear or furniture. Anything you make keeps its look forever, even after the material stops turning up.
A Grave-Sealed Ward (bought or earned) will absorb the next hit a wild monster lands on you, and a Reaper’s Lantern gives you a short burst of night vision and a small detect-hidden boost, rechargeable with candy.
Wearing an Amulet of Fortune’s Favor? When a Halloween monster that carries candy dies (pumpkin monsters, paragons, invasion waves and the like) and you helped bring it down, its corpse gets a bonus candy roll – usually plain candy, sometimes uncommon or rare. The bonus doesn’t apply in weekly dungeons, and it doesn’t change the rewards from activities such as trick-or-treating, pumpkin smashing, gravedigging, the bounty board or boss rewards. The amulet still raises the gold you can earn from paragons, as it does all year.
Most of Halloween is meant to be played a little every day, not ground out in one sitting. Many activities can be repeated daily, and a few of the most generous rewards have a daily limit shared by your household: the Headless Horseman’s candy, rare finds from sticky webs and the drowned, rare Haunted Waters catches (sunken chests, relics and lanterns), bounty contract rewards, and a few vendor purchases. Pumpkin sales and the Restless Graves puzzle have their own daily limits too. Limits reset at the daily server restart, and you’ll get a message if you reach one, so you never fight for nothing without knowing it.
The limits are there to keep the candy economy healthy over five weeks, and they’re set so that a casual player who drops in for an evening and a dedicated player who’s on every day both have plenty to do and plenty to earn.
A Haunted House Raffle runs through the event: from October 8th, buy tickets with candy for a shot at winning a house, drawn on Halloween night.
Log in anytime between October 24th and November 7th and you’ll receive a Halloween Lottery Box 2026, once per account. Open it for a random prize – most commonly a stack of Peculiar or Rare Halloween Candy, but sometimes a pet dye you won’t find anywhere else this Halloween (including a jackpot true-black Hellcat dye), a Rattling Skull decoration, or a Halloween Mask and Clothing Bless Deed.
Between everything above, there are close to twenty new or returning titles to chase this season – see each section above for where they come from.
If you’re working on your Mastery Chain necklace, several of this Halloween’s toughest bosses – the Headless and Vengeful Horsemen, the Pumpkin King, the Rotting Harvest Lord, the Crypt Guardian, the Cursed Guardian found in Cursed Treasure Maps, the Drowned Guardian of the sunken maps, the Ghost Ship’s Spectral Captain, and the six Restless Dead – can drop Mastery Gems on top of their usual loot. Completing Hester’s Trick-or-Treat Trail and Headless Search quests, and collecting every page of Agatha Crowe’s Ghost Tour diary, each also grants a one-time chunk of Mastery experience.
None of this is a shortcut around the grind, though: Halloween candy can never be spent on Mastery progress.
