Double-click your Gem Mastery Necklace. You need a Gem Mastery Necklace in your backpack or worn on your neck to open the window at all.
If you carry more than one necklace, the window manages whichever necklace you opened it from – letting you inspect and configure any necklace you own, even one that isn’t currently active.
At the top: your current experience and the amount needed for your next level, shown as “X / Y xp,” with a progress bar filling in as you get closer. Once you hit Level 30, this simply reads MAX LEVEL REACHED.
A 10-by-3 grid of 30 slots represents every possible gem socket. Slots you haven’t unlocked yet are shown locked; unlocked-but-empty slots are ready for a gem; filled slots show what’s installed.
On the right, a scrolling list shows every bonus currently granted by the necklace you’re viewing, each shown as a percentage (for example, “+3.50%” next to a bonus name). Above the list, a status line tells you whether this necklace’s bonuses are actually live right now:
- “Active - bonuses applied” – this necklace is your active one, and its bonuses are currently working.
- “Inactive - activate this necklace to apply” – you’re looking at a necklace’s gems, but you need to activate it (see below) before its bonuses do anything.
Near the bottom, the window lists the gold cost to install a gem of each material, plus the flat Shard Essence cost per gem – see Gems and Bonuses for the exact numbers.
- Install Gem – click it, then target a gem in your backpack to socket it into your lowest unlocked, empty slot (you confirm before it is installed).
- Install All – install every eligible gem in your backpack at once, with one combined confirmation.
- Clicking a filled slot lets you remove that gem (you confirm first, and the gem is returned to your backpack).
- Done – closes the window.
Bonuses from a necklace’s socketed gems only apply while that necklace is active. To turn a necklace on or off, right-click it and choose Activate or Deactivate.
A few important rules:
- Only one necklace can be active at a time, across your whole account – including necklaces sitting in your bank. If you try to activate a second one, you’ll be told to deactivate the first.
- Switching your active necklace has a short cooldown (about 30 seconds) before you can change it again. This stops bonus loadouts from being swapped mid-fight.
- Your Mastery Level and experience are shared account-wide, but the gems installed in a necklace belong to that specific necklace object. If you craft a second necklace, it starts with its own empty slots – your level just determines how many of those slots are unlocked.
A freshly crafted Gem Mastery Necklace isn’t tied to anyone until it’s used. The first time you activate it or socket a gem into it, it becomes bound to your account – from that point on, only your own characters can use that specific necklace. Its tooltip will show who it’s bound to.
¶ Death and safekeeping
- Your Gem Mastery Necklace itself is protected – it won’t drop as loot if your character dies.
- Loose Mastery Gems sitting in your backpack are not specially protected. They follow the same rules as any other item in your pack when you die, so bank them or socket them rather than carrying a pile of valuable gems into dangerous fights.
- Gems and Bonuses for installation costs and every bonus type.
- FAQ for quick answers to common questions.
