This page walks you through everything from a completely fresh account to your first socketed gem.
The Gem Mastery Necklace is crafted with the Tinkering skill, and you need 100 skill to unlock the recipe. It requires no recipe scroll – once you hit 100 Tinkering, the recipe is simply available in your crafting menu, under the Gem Mastery category.
The necklace recipe needs:
| Ingredient | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Shard Essence | 250 |
| Valorite Ingots | 100 |
| Diamonds | 30 |
| Sapphires | 30 |
| Rubies | 30 |
| Topazes | 30 |
A few notes on sourcing:
With 100 Tinkering and all the ingredients in hand, open your Tinkering menu, find Gem Mastery Necklace under the Gem Mastery category, and craft it. It always succeeds at 100 skill – no risk of failure or wasting materials.
Your new Gem Mastery Necklace appears in your backpack.
A necklace alone doesn’t do anything until you turn it on:
You’ll see a message confirming the system is now ACTIVE. Once active, the necklace is bound to your account – see Managing Your Chain for what that means.
You can only have one active Gem Mastery Necklace at a time, and switching which one is active has a short cooldown. If you only craft one necklace, this won’t matter to you.
Just go kill monsters. You don’t even need the necklace equipped (or even carried) to earn Mastery experience – see Earning Mastery for the details. Every level you gain unlocks one more gem slot on your necklace, up to 30 total.
Mastery Gems drop from monsters – even ordinary ones have a small chance to drop the weakest tier, a Ruby Mastery Gem. See Where to Find Gems for the full picture. Keep hunting and one will turn up in your backpack eventually.
Once you have a gem and at least one unlocked slot:
Congratulations – you now have a lasting, stacking bonus. Keep leveling, keep finding gems, and keep socketing them to grow your character over time.
