Spirit Speak enables great benefits to those who wish to summon creatures from other planes of existence into the realm of Britannia. Bringing creatures across the veil between worlds requires not only an understanding of the otherworld, but also a deep understanding of the physical world they reside in. Thus the Animal Lore and Veterinary skills play heavily into a summoner's life.
Spirit Speak and its related skills offer the following benefits to Magery spells that involve summoning creatures:
- The duration of a controlled summon increases greatly from the standard 1 minute to a maximum of 4 minutes at GM Spirit Speak, Veterinary, and Animal Lore (scaled up with each evenly).
- The maximum health of any summoned creature is boosted based on your Veterinary skill, to a maximum of a 25% boost at GM
- Healing your controllable summoned creatures works the same way as Animal Taming and relies on using bandages with Veterinary and Animal Lore skill
- At 80 Spirit Speak a new perk is unlocked. The summoner can cast the Bless spell on their controllable summons and grant them a chance to resist any attempt to Dispel the creature. At 80 Sprit Speak, this chance is 50%. At GM, it is 95% resist chance.
- Uncontrollable summons (Blade Spirits, Energy Vortex) recognize something friendly in a summoner and are more averse to attacking them. Uncontrollable summons are less likely to attack a player based on their Spirit Speak skill (as long as they have at least 30.1 in Veterinary and Animal Lore), being half as likely to choose them as their target at GM Spirit Speak (scaled up from 0)
Spirit Speak is an essential skill for a Necromancer since it is used as a damage modifier for all the Necronomicon's spells.
- While attuned with the afterlife, you will receive less damage from Undead creatures scaled with the formula:
- damage - ((damage/100) (SpiritSpeak/4)) = damage * (1 - (SpiritSpeak/400)) - Which results in a 25% damage reduction at GM level.
- Healing over time is received in two scenarios when Undead and using Spirit Speak (This applies once when succeeded):
- If you have zero Healing skill, you will receive healing over time under any situation, but has one-minute cooldown.
- If you have any Healing skill, you can only receive healing over time only if out of combat, which usually has around 2 minutes cooldown
- Herding does not apply to summons as it does with Animal Taming, and carries no benefit to summoning.
- Uncontrollable summons will still target the summoner, especially when no other enemy is around. They are less likely to target players with higher skill in Spirit Speak.
Spirit Speak can be gained by using the Spirit Speak skill or casting a spell that summons a creature.
At 60.1 Spirit Speak and Magery, the ability to use the Summoner's Tome is unlocked.
